Meet the woman behind the mission of Farm to Able Animal Sanctuary

Meet Sheriee
Founder
Farm to Able Sanctuary was founded by Sheriee, a sixth-generation farmer born and raised on a century-old cattle farm in Maysville, Missouri. For the first two decades of her life, she worked closely with her grandfather—riding tractors, caring for livestock, and breeding quarter horses. While she cherished her time on the farm, her early exposure to the harsh realities of animal agriculture planted seeds of discomfort that would later grow into deep compassion.
Over time, Sheriee’s perspective shifted dramatically. She became increasingly disturbed by the suffering inherent in the meat and dairy industries, especially after learning about the intelligence and emotional depth of animals like pigs. This awakening led her to transition gradually to a vegan lifestyle, ultimately devoting her life to animal advocacy. In 2016, after years of serving in Kansas City hospice care—a calling she felt deeply guided to—Sheriee shifted her focus to rescuing animals of all species. Primarily educating the community about the dangers of unethical breeding practices, which also lead to and still includes seeing & protecting other often unnoticed faces. Six years after her first companion pig Charlie in 2016 followed by many other worthy souls - Farm to Able Sanctuary was born.
Today, Farm to Able is a safe haven for rescued farm animals, where each life is valued and protected. Sheriee’s mission is rooted in empathy, prayerful discernment, and a lifelong commitment to doing purposeful work that serves animals, the planet, and humanity. Her sanctuary is not just a refuge—it's the realization of a lifelong calling to be a voice for the voiceless.
From One Big Pig to One Big Purpose.
How Charlie Changed Everything
Farm to Able Animal Sanctuary was born out of a personal journey that began with one pig—and a powerful realization. Like many, we once believed the myths surrounding so-called “mini pigs”: that they stay small, require little care, and make simple pets. But behind those myths is a heartbreaking truth—hundreds of pigs are abandoned or surrendered every year due to misinformation from backyard breeders.
We learned firsthand how breeders mislead families, selling underaged, unweaned piglets and falsely claiming they're fixed or will remain under 50 pounds. Many pigs suffer or die as a result, and too many end up in need of rescue.
What started with Charlie, our first pig who we purchased from a breeder, turned into a mission. After being educated by the pig rescue community, we’ve committed ourselves to shutting down unethical breeding practices, advocating for adoption, and supporting families through spay/neuter assistance and education—helping pigs stay in loving homes.
Farm to Able now serves as a safe haven for pigs and other farm animals in Missouri, offering rescue, rehabilitation, and education. Our goal is not only to provide sanctuary, but to raise awareness about the realities of animal ownership and the importance of responsible care.
